Say So

Another Lord ’s Day and another opportunity to gather with believers to worship, to study, and to fellowship. Our mission team, that returned from Haiti a couple of weeks ago, gave their testimonies to the church. It was obvious that each one could have said far more than their allotted time allowed. Each told the story from a different perspective through their mind’s own particular filters, but all indicated that their own lives were changed.

We finished the book of Ruth today in the Rock Group and saw that Boaz, the willing kinsman-redeemer of a poor and destitute gentile woman with nothing to offer, is a fuzzy picture of Jesus, our willing kinsman-redeemer, redeeming us poor and destitute gentile sinners who have nothing to offer. We saw, further, that Ruth who, by choice rather than birth came under God’s covenant, was privileged to be included in the lineage of King David and Jesus Christ.

I love the story of Ruth! It shows that God’s eyes were on the wealthy and the impoverished, on male and female, on old and young, on the righteous and the unrighteous.

I also love Psalm 33:13-22:

From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth- he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.

But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.
